Description

This module looks at traditional and modern theories of inter-industry trade and intra-industry trade and trade policies within the new world economic order. It will apply the theories both to individual countries and to trading associations such as the European Union, North American Free Trade Agreement and World Trade Organisation. Overall, the course will provide students with the basis for understanding and critically evaluating theoretical and applied studies concerning international trade issues and policies.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this module you will

  • be able to understand the traditional and modern theories that explain the existence of inter-industry trade
  • be able to evaluate the relevance of the different instruments of trade policy
  • be able to follow and assess and critically evaluate world trade negotiations
  • be able to evaluate theoretical and applied studies concerning international economic issues and policies
  • be able to construct your own economic arguments and critically comment on the arguments of others
  • be able to present economic arguments and ideas in seminars and essays
  • be able to work in a group on economics seminar problems
