DICE impact on the ground

Perhaps DICE's most important contribution to on-the-ground conservation is the army of people it has trained who are battling on the front lines of the war to prevent the loss of biodiversity.

Research on the Mallorcan midwife toad contributed to this species being the only amphibian to be downlisted from 'Critically Endangered' to 'Vulnerable'.

Genetic and disease research by DICE's genetics group on the Mauritius parakeet has supported the recent downlisting of this Red-listed species from Critically Endangered to Endangered (IUCN report 2006).

DICE's axolotl project in Mexico precipitated a vote by the Senate of the Mexican government imploring the President to support the DICE - Mexico collaboration to conserve Lake Xochimilco.

Tiger conservation work in Sumatra has beenbuilding local capacity and applying rigorous science to bear on tiger conservation issues. Conducting the first ever reliable assessment of tiger conservation status in Kerinci Seblat National Park, which later led to it being internationally recognised as a so-called 'Global Priority Tiger Conservation Landscape'; Using camera trap data and the core protection zone status to successfully lobby against a government planned road being constructed through critically important tiger habitat within Kerinci Seblat National Park.
