About us

People at work

The aims of the centre are to:

  • Deliver vocational courses to fit the needs of local business
  • Offer individuals employed or unemployed, the opportunity to have their experience workplace learning accredited
  • Offer workplace learning opportunities to suit the needs of busy, working people
  • Offer learning delivered across Further and Higher education institutions.

The majority of our learners bring existing knowledge and skills to their studies, which have been acquired throughout their professional and personal lives.

We begin upon building upon the wealth of work-related experience our students possess, and where possible, accredit it. This means that you do not have to re-learn what you already know, and this can cut down the time spent studying.

Working people are often apprehensive about returning to study. This is particularly true if you have not studied for some time and you may wonder if you will be able to complete your studies whilst juggling a busy lifestyle. We understand these concerns and support you throughout your studies. Our Student Support Officer will also help you to identify and plan future career and educational goals.

Individuals

We can help you to:

  • Liaise between Colleges and Universities in the area, and/or your employer, regarding your career and educational aspirations
  • Transfer credit you may already have into your new course of study
  • Gain credit for your experience through APECL (the accreditation of prior experiential and certificated learning)
  • Choose the correct course of study for your chosen career pathway
  • Help you to plan work-based study to suit your needs and fit in with your current lifestyle
  • Access free impartial and professional information, advice and guidance to help you plan future career goals

It's great having someone to help you plan your future career goals. It feels like a luxury. The guidance I got was truly independent. Sue, the Student Support Officer, told me just as much about other courses as she did about this one. I really felt she was on my side.
