I chose to study at Kent because of its excellent reputation in social sciences.
I am currently studying a joint honours in Criminology and Sociology. The main attraction of this course was my fascination in understanding society and its social actors and how they relate with each other. I have found this course interesting and enjoyable as it has helped me to gain a better understanding of how things in society function.

|What have you particularly enjoyed about your time at Kent?
I have enjoyed both my studies and also the extra activities I have undertaken. I have also learnt important life skills such as being independent and organised.
Which modules have you enjoyed the most, and why?
I have enjoyed most of my modules, especially the module called Criminal Justice in Modern Britain. This is because this module investigated controversial policy issues related to the criminal justice system. It examined the general characteristics and development of the modern criminal justice system of police, courts, prisons and punishment, examining their relationships with other agencies such as welfare.
What are the most interesting things you have learned on your course so far?
The most interesting things I have learned on my course have been presentation and research skills.
What about the teaching?
I have found the teaching at Kent to be outstanding; this is because the lecturers are easily approachable and very helpful.
How would you describe your fellow students?
My fellow students are friendly, which creates a great student atmosphere.
What about the facilities on campus?
Kent has excellent facilities with computer rooms in each college, which I have found very useful during revision periods and also essay writing. Its social facilities are equally impressive with a range of cafes, bars, gym and restaurants. Kent has also got great places to socialise with friends, which include a theatre, nightclub and a cinema. There is a wide variety of societies and sporting clubs, which cater for everyone's needs.
What about the accommodation?
The accommodation on campus is superb. In my first year of Uni I lived on campus in a college, which was situated centrally to all the campus facilities. This meant that all facilities were easily accessible and I was able to get the most out of them. Whilst living there I made friends, which I would hope to keep for life, and moved in with them in my second year. Living on campus is worthwhile and really lets you experience Uni life to the full.
What do you think about the level of support in your studies?
The level of support for my studies has been exceptional. The seminar leaders and lecturers have been very helpful and easily accessible, with office hours available every week to review progress of my studies and also answer any questions.
How do you think your studies will affect your employment prospects?
My studies will play a huge role in my employment prospects. This is because I am planning to become a social researcher. My course has taught me important skills that will contribute to my becoming a researcher. In my second year I took a Social Research Methods module, which has enabled me to gain research skills and has had a huge impact on my dissertation.
What are you planning to do next?
I am planning to stay in full-time education, continuing with a Master's followed by a PhD in research methods.
Any advice for those thinking about taking this course?
You have to be hardworking and passionate about the subject.
