Why did you choose to study at Kent?

I chose Kent because of its location and because it offered a joint honours programme in art history and comparative literature. I also liked the fact that it had a large international student population.

What attracted you about the course?

I wanted to combine the two subjects, being interested in both, and the course allowed me to do just that. It was hard work, because I had to maintain myself over the three years, but I greatly enjoyed it.

What have you enjoyed most about your time at Kent?

Studying art history was the most enjoyable part of my time at Kent – I had excellent lecturers. I loved Templeman Library. It’s a nice campus overall and walking up and down that hill kept me fit!

Which modules have you enjoyed the most, and why?

Reading the Image and French Painting in the 19th Century, especially. Dr Kear was an inspiring lecturer.

How did you find the teaching?

Excellent!

And what about the facilities?

Good facilities. I didn’t really get to spend as much time on campus as other students might have, though.

What have you done since you graduated?

After leaving Kent, I worked for a year or so at Canterbury College, setting up their higher education study centre. Then I left England for Sydney, Australia (where I still reside). I had a number of temporary administrative positions until two years ago when I joined the Art Gallery Society of New South Wales as publication co-ordinator.

How do you think your studies will affect your employment prospects?

I work on a monthly arts publication; it is my role to coordinate the entire process and assist the editor in the preparation of every issue. My typical day involves a fair amount of research, as I also contribute articles to the magazine, editing and proofreading, liaising with designers and publishers, collecting information for regular features, and more.

What are you planning to do next?

Ideally, I would like to further my studies, but that might be impractical at this stage of my life. I very much enjoy research and writing - a position within the curatorial department of a larger UK public gallery would be fantastic.
