The Statistics Group is forward-thinking, with varied research, and received consistently high rankings in the last two Research Assessment Exercises. In 2011, we updated our MSc in Statistics and introduced a new MSc in Statistics with Finance. Research projects have a good blend of theory and applications. We encourage all postgraduate Statistics students to take part in statistics seminars and to help in tutorial classes.
Professional recognition
The taught programmes in Statistics and Statistics with Finance provide exemption from the professional examinations of the Royal Statistical Society and qualification for Graduate Statistician status.
Dynamic Publishing Culture
Recent books include Bayesian Nonparametrics (co-author Stephen Walker); Bayesian Analysis for Population Ecology (co-author, Byron Morgan); Introduction to Queueing Theory and Matrix- Analytic Methods (co-author, Lothar Breuer); From Markov Jump Processes to Spatial Queues (Lothar Breuer). Staff also contribute regularly to leading international journals such as: Annals of Statistics; Applied Statistics; Biometrics; Biometrika; Computational Statistics and Data Analysis; Journal of the American Statistical Association; Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Series B; Scandinavian Journal of Statistics; Statistics and Computing.
