How do I obtain additional guest tickets?

The extra ticket holders will be seated with the guaranteed ticket holders. All guests will be seated on a first come, first served basis.

The price for these extra tickets is £20.00 per ticket. The tickets will be distributed on a first come, first served basis following registration on the waiting list.

The extra ticket ballot will re-open soon. The link to the Extra Ticket ballot will be live nearer the ceremony date.

If you are successful in obtaining extra tickets, they will be available to collect along with your one or two guaranteed guest tickets.

Please note that entry to the cathedrals will not be permitted without a ticket.

There will be no replacement tickets issued if they are misplaced after collection.

Please Note: Canterbury Cathedal dates back to the 10th Century. Therefore there are large pillars incorporated within it's construction. This in some cases restricts full viewing. Please be aware that the Congregations Office cannot be held responsible if you are seated in one of these areas. All guests are seated on a first come first serve basis. It is advisable to arrive as soon as comfortably possible for your guests bearing in mind there is no shelter and very little seating in the grounds of the Cathedral.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION VERY CAREFULLY

Students will soon be emailed on successful allocation of extra tickets.

Anyone who purchases extra tickets without a successful email confirmation may not be refunded.
If you do not need extra tickets anymore please reply to the successful email stating you no longer want them.  This way they are distributed to the next person who was not so successful and therefore every student is fairly treated.

The Congregations Office will be aware of how many tickets students have asked for and therefore any student who has more than the designated tickets on the day will have the remaining tickets confiscated with guests unable to attend and will not be refunded.

Why is there a graduation charge?

Whilst greatly enhancing the day, using the Cathedrals makes the ceremonies more costly and complex than using a venue on campus. Consequently, a graduation charge guaranteeing two guest tickets has been introduced. Many other universities charge a similar fee.

How much do I need to pay?

If you wish to attend with guests the fee is currently £40, which guarantees you two guest tickets. Graduands who wish to have their degree conferred without attending the ceremony (in absentia) or who wish to attend without guests do not need to pay this charge.

Extra guest tickets cost £20.00 and are only available if you were successful in gaining them.

Where will the Congregation Ceremonies be held?

All the ceremonies for University of Kent at Canterbury students are held in Canterbury Cathedral. University of Kent at Medway students will receive their degrees at a ceremony in Rochester Cathedral.

What should I wear?

All graduands/awardees should dress smartly for the formal occasion of their graduation. Suits are usually worn by men and women are permitted to wear trousers if smart. Students are very welcome to wear national dress. All graduands must also wear the appropriate academic dress which has to be hired by a company called Ede & Ravenscroft. Please read your invitation letter on how to hire your robe.

Please note: students must not wear jeans or trainers.

How long is the ceremony?

Each ceremony lasts for approximately 90 minutes.

Can children attend?

Children are not excluded, but owing to the layout of the Cathedrals, it is not possible to guarantee a full view of the proceedings. Families with very young children (under 3 years old) should sit close to the main door for ease of exit if necessary. Please note: All children over 3 years old will need a ticket. Children under 3 years can sit on a parents lap free of charge but please notify the Congregations office of this.

I have special needs, who do I contact?

If you or your guests have any special requirements, eg wheelchair access, you should inform the Congregations Team as soon as possible after receiving your official invitation. You can notify us by emailing congregations@kent.ac.ukstating the graduates name, address, contact email and telephone number and the time and date of the ceremony you need special assistance with. Once we have note of the special requirements we will then either email or post a separate document to you explaining in detail where you will need to go on the day and any other relevant information you need to make your day flow with ease.

Important Information:

The Congregations Office do need to take into consideration all guests who do need special requirements so please only email us if it is absolutely necessary to ask us for help on the day. We need to know about any special requirements before (DATE TBA) Spaces are limited and we can only seat 2 guests (the guest who needs the requirements and another) in this area of the Cathedral so please take this into consideration if you are bringing more than 2 guests. Your other guests who will not be seated in this area will need to queue with the other guests at the South West Door and wait for the doors to open.

If I do not attend, when will I receive my certificate?

All certificates will be mailed by recorded or registered mail towards the end of July/beginning of August (Summer Ceremonies) and at the end of November/December (Winter Ceremonies). It is imperative that upon receipt of your official invitation letter that you confirm the address you wish your certificate to be sent.

Please note due to the high cost of postage if a certificate is returned to us as 'unclaimed for' you will be charged postage costs for us to send your certificate out to you again including admin fees. The cost is £20.00.

How do I obtain a duplicate degree certificate?

Duplicate certificates can only be obtained if your certificate has been lost or stolen. If this is the case you will need to apply online at Student Records Office giving full details of your degree and when it was obtained.

A fee will be charged by our student records office for this service.

How do I get a copy of my transcript?
