This seminar presents key findings from an applied doctoral research study into vocational rehabilitation and return to work practice in the UK. Case study methodology was used to gain a cross-sector understanding of practice in recognised centres of excellence in the insurance sector, an occupational health setting, a government-funded condition management programme and a private injury management company. Taking an occupation-focused perspective, the process of vocational rehabilitation was defined as a six stage model, the Participation of Work Framework.
The presentation also describes how the findings from this research are currently being tested in practice locally as one of ten successful national Fit for Work pilots, as recommended in the Black report (2008)
