Project Leader: Iain
Carpenter. MD, FRCP
Iain's primary research interests are
screening and evaluation of care services for older
people, specifically intermediate care and the single
assessment process. Iain is a Founding Member of
interRAI, and has been instumental in the development of
the MDS. He is also a founder member of interRAI-UK, a
registered charity established with the Joseph Rowntree
Foundation and Norwich Union to promote the use of
standardised assessment for care delivery, performance
monitoring and research. He is chair of the British
Geriatrics Society Health Services Research Special
Interest Group.

Programme Manager: Annette King.
Annette
acts is the key link person between Senectus and the NHS
R&D team within the local trust, where she is based.
She has previously worked for the Government Social
Research Unit and in academic research. Her background
includes social policy and health services research;
specifically informal care and older people’s
services. She has a long-standing interest in policy,
service evaluation and implementation

Database Manager: Mathew
Mackenzie. BSc Hons, PhD.
Mathew came to the CHSS
from an Information Technologies background, having studied
database systems and neural networks, in which
he achieved his Ph.D. in 1997. Since moving into
healthcare research, he has worked on studies including
a controlled trial examining additional physiotherapy for people with stroke, and
a qualitative study of
the hospital discharge process for older people. Now focusing
on older people's health care, he has since worked as
project manager for the ICON project, examining intermediate
care from an operations research perspective. He
maintains a comprehensive range of IT skills including
systems, databases and graphic design.

MDS Trainer: Marion Scholes. SRN.
Marion is a qualified
nurse. Her
research includes the ADHOC (Aged in Homecare) project
developing an evidence base for effective home care
services for older people in 13 European countries. She
is responsible for the Development and implementation of
a training programme for nurses and healthcare workers
using the MDS systems.
