Addictive Behaviours

Addictive Behaviours Group

The University of Kent has been providing education and research in addiction related areas since 1982 with the Diploma in Alcohol Counselling and Consultation, recognised as one of the leading UK programmes of its type. This programme evolved into the Diploma in Addictions Counselling. In response to the need to provide a wider community focus, a team of researchers and practitioners launched the Diploma in Addiction Management in 1998, they then developed the Addictive Behaviour Group.

Good working relationships exist between the Addictive Behaviours Group, the NHS, local Drug Action Teams (DATs), the Kent Council on Addiction and the N.T.A. in the South East. Many Kent graduates now occupy positions as managers and senior practitioners in the statutory and non-statutory services.
