Membership

Current Members

Ian Bride, DICE; tbc, Safety, Health and Environment Unit; Professor Roger Vickerman, Economics; Professor William Howarth, KLS; Keith Bothwell, Architecture; Nick Swinford, Estates; A student representative.

The Convenor is the University Safety and Environmental Management Adviser.

The Group will consist of a minimum of 5 members in addition to the convenor. There should be:
one member from Kent Union;
one member from the Estates Department;
three or more members from other departments.

The Group will select a chair from amongst its members.

When additional or replacement members of the group are required:
the Convenor will consult with group members, the responsible Pro-Vice-Chancellor and any other persons within the University that he feels are relevant;
with the benefit of these opinions, the Convenor will select a person or list of persons likely to be acceptable to SHEEC as members of the group;
the name or list of names will be presented to SHEEC for the choice to be ratified or for a selection to be made from the list.

Mandate
The Environment Advisory Group (EAG) acts in an advisory capacity to the Safety, Health and Environment Executive Committee (SHEEC) with regard to issues related to the environment and environmental management.

Meetings
The Group will meet termly at a convenient date ahead of the SHEEC meeting with additional meetings as required.

Terms of Reference:

The Group will:

  • provide SHEEC with advice and with recommendations on policy with regard to the environment and environmental management;
  • recommend measurable objectives for use by SHEEC with respect to its need to monitor environmental activity and performance;
  • consider matters referred to it by SHEEC and report back;
  • develop further support for an environmental management system using experts and consultants either from within the University of externally.
