Actuaries evaluate and manage financial risks, particularly in the financial services industry; it's a small yet well-respected, influential and relatively well-paid profession. Only a small number of universities in the UK teach Actuarial Science and our programmes have full accreditation from the UK Actuarial Profession. If you are good at mathematics and you are curious about financial matters, you should enjoy studying actuarial science.
As well as our undergraduate programme in Actuarial Science, CASRI offers a programme in Financial Mathematics.
This three year full-time programme can get you well on the way to becoming a fully qualified actuary. It is an excellent foundation for careers in many other areas of finance and risk.
As well as developing a core understanding of mathematical and statistical methods, the course offers the opportunity to gain exemption from eight of the Core Technical Subjects (CT1 to CT8) of the professional examinations of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
The programme is fully accredited by the UK Actuarial Profession.
The degree can be combined with a Year in Industry after the second year of study.
The two degree programmes are very similar in the first year of study, making it possible to transfer between them at the start of the second year.
The programmes are taught by lecturers who bring both research and industrial experience to the undergraduate syllabus. Because CASRI is part of the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science (SMSAS), if you undertake your studies with us you will also have access to world-class academics in the fields of statistics, pure mathematics, and applied mathematics. All teaching in the School is research-led. All mathematics and statistics lecturers are engaged in research within their field of expertise, and all Actuarial Science modules are taught by qualified actuaries.
