Your degree is likely to be less important than your personal qualities or relevant experience. Generally, this experience needs to be gained, at least
initially, as a volunteer and there are several organisations in Kent that you may be able to get involved with while at University, as a mentor, campaigner or administrator.
Do-it www.do-it.org excellent database of volunteering opportunities that can be searched by location, activities or keyword.
Any experience (paid or voluntary) in relevant areas such as housing/homelessness, welfare and benefits, employment, teaching English as a foreign language etc would be useful to develop the skills that will allow you to develop a long-term career in this field - it doesn't necessarily have to be with refugees initially. Developing language skills would also be a useful asset, French and Spanish probably being the most useful of the "mainstream" languages.
In the longer term, jobs may be advertised locally (in the Kentish Gazette or through the Careers Service vacancy bulletins) or on individual organisations' websites. The Guardian is useful to monitor for ideas about different opportunities in this field but ads in the national press are expensive so you are unlikely to see many jobs for new graduates here.
