Some of the customers we have worked with over the last 15 years are: BAA, Thales, Allied Bakeries,
Experian, Kraft, Legal & General, O2 (Telefonica), Prudential, Yahoo! Europe, Skype, Société Générale

What do we expect of you?
1. Enthusiasm and commitment – we expect you to be enthusiastic and keen to learn. We also
expect you to work hard.

communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
4. A cool head – we expect you to able to work effectively under pressure.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Beware of job offer scammers!

One Kent graduate got a fake job offer from a US-based company called Sherman & Stanley, which looks like a US Based company hiring for Administrative assistants. Upon enquiring about the company they informed the student that It would be 3 hours work from home. It all looked very plausible

They then asked the graduate for full bank account details. Fortunately she asked me about this. The company name did not come up on Google which itself was suspicious - often the name of the company is changed with every email they send out. I Googled the document she had been sent: I pasted "sign it and return scanned 1st, 7th and 8th pages back over the email." from their email into Google search and found a number of scam warnings about the organisation who would have taken money from her bank account if she had proceeded further. The vacancy had been advertised on a bona fide jobs board.

Always check adverts for jobs very carefully and Google the company and job offer details if you have any suspicions. If it looks too good to be true and the selection process is very easy be very cautious.

> After I apply and send my CV to recruiters, they generally never get back. I wanted to know, how do I politely ask why I wasnt appropriate for the job. Just for a feedback. How can I ask so that it doesn't look as if I am pestering them?

Try something like the following. It may not always work, but is worth a try.

"Dear ....

I would be most grateful for some feedback on my unsuccessful application for the post of .... I understand that you must be very busy and must get large numbers of applicants but it would be help me greatly if you could please give me some information on why I was unsuccessful, so I am able to improve my applications to other organisations.

Thanking you in anticipation ....
"

> I am planning on doing an internship abroad in wildlife conservation - hopefully for six months and was wondering if you had any advice on which company to use? I have been looking into using GVI - global vision international http://www.gvi.co.uk

There are lots of reviews about them on the net e.g.

http://www.abroadreviews.com/global-vision

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews245995.html

These generally seem to say quite expensive but good.

If you want something a lot cheaper but probably less well supported, so not as secure, see our environmental careers page
http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/Environment.htm - the employers and links tab

Vacancy Database

Please note that we now have a new vacancy system in place to list vacancies for graduates, placement students and interns notified to the University of Kent Careers and Employability Service. The new web address is http://kent.prospects.ac.uk  - please update your bookmarks.

Our vacancy database http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/jobs/index.htm has over 300 vacancies many from EMPLOYERS PARTICULARLY LOOKING FOR KENT GRADUATES. The vacancy database also has postgraduate study and work experience placements sections, with some very interesting opportunities. You will probably be getting vacancy emails from a number of sources (this is very wise), but please don't ignore these emails. Some of the advertised jobs are specifically aimed at Kent graduates, often by employers who are themselves graduates from Kent, or have recruited a Kent graduate and have been impressed by them, so often competition for vacancies in our vacancy database is often much lower!
