• These emails are general in nature (I haven't the time to personalise them for each subject area!) but we do try to include something for everyone. Some people complain that these lists are dominated by business and computing jobs, but we can only put in vacancies that employers send to us!

PUBLIC RELATIONS CONSULTANTS ASSOCIATION CAREERS DAY
Thursday 1st March 2012, Natural History Museum,
This full day event will see a variety of panel sessions and speakers discuss the many different aspects of Public Relations from working within an agency or an in-house team; the difference between sectors such as consumer, sport, local government, and sustainability. A panel of the brightest young PR professionals will discuss what entry level PR is really like, followed by two bespoke master classes on breaking into the industry and the ever popular topic of digital!

BRIGHTON JOURNALIST WORKS: FREE JOURNALISM WORKSHOP

Do you want to work in journalism?
Come to a free journalism workshop where you can find out what it is like to be a journalist and everything that you need to know about starting a career in journalism. It is designed as an informal and fun session for you to learn what makes a news story and how to write a story for a newspaper; You will produce your own story from ‘breaking news’ and get some guidance and feedback from our (working journalist) tutors. You will also have the opportunity to learn what editors are looking for when recruiting, the different career options available and what you need to do to start your journalism career. 
We're based in the office of The Argus, Brighton’s daily newspaper, and you will have a tour of the Argus newsroom, some light refreshments and the opportunity to ask any questions you have. Experience a ‘day in the life of a journalist’ and decide whether a career in journalism is the right path for you.

SHELDRAKE PRESS: RUTHLESS RHYME COMPETITION
Are you a bright young graduate or final-year student looking for an opportunity to have your work published for the first time and get some experience working with a London- based publishing company? We are running a competition to find the best short poem in the style of a Ruthless Rhyme, a humorous verse form invented by Harry Graham. The winner will have their poem published in our soon-to-be-launched blog and will then be invited to write further Ruthless Rhymes on seasonal themes throughout 2012. In addition, the winner and any runners-up will be favourably considered for a six-month internship at Sheldrake Press, to start in 2012. Sheldrake Press is an independent non-fiction publisher now in its 32nd year. Under its founder, Simon Rigge, a partwork and series book editor by background and a bit of an idealist by inclination, it has built up a reputation for original, meticulously finished and attractively illustrated books. Its main subjects are travel, architecture and design, history and cookery, with gift stationery books illustrated by Kate Greenaway as a sideline. A belief in environmental conservation lies behind many of its publishing decisions. CIMA GLOBAL BUSINESS CHALLENGE 2012

THE BOSCH TECHNOLOGY HORIZONS AWARD 2012
Aged between 19 and 24 and interested in a career in engineering or technology?
The Bosch Technology Horizons Award is a national essay-writing competition run by Bosch in partnership with the Royal Academy of Engineering. The award encourages students with a passion and interest in engineering to discuss the way in which technology and engineering impact every aspect of life, and with questions focusing on the Olympics and green technology, this year's award promises to be the most topical yet.

London is the main centre for publishing, but Cambridge, Oxford and Basingstoke are other centres.

Firstly you would need to do lots of research on publishing. Editorial is the most competitive job in publishing so I'd suggest you also look at marketing, production, sales etc.

Then learn Quark, In Design and Photoshop as they are the publishing industry programs you need to master. You can download trila versions for free - see  hhttp://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/sk/computing-skills.htm

Teaching English as a Foreign Langauge course

The Centre for English & World Languages will be running an intensive 4-week Cambridge CELTA course from 10 April to 4 May (including Saturday 14 April).The course takes place entirely within the spring vacation period.

CELTA is the University of Cambridge's Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA).This practical course of study is an internationally recognised qualification, which provides participants with the minimum entry level for the English language teaching profession. Taking CELTA will enable you to apply for a teaching post either overseas or in the UK. It is an excellent means of enhancing your employability.

is a new service that matches graduates with internship opportunities. It is a partnership between Government and employers, designed to help new and recent graduates gain real work experience. Vacancy Database

Please note that we now have a new vacancy system in place to list vacancies for graduates, placement students and interns notified to the University of Kent Careers and Employability Service. The new web address is http://kent.prospects.ac.uk  - please update your bookmarks.

Our vacancy database http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/jobs/index.htm has over 300 vacancies many from EMPLOYERS PARTICULARLY LOOKING FOR KENT GRADUATES. The vacancy database also has postgraduate study and work experience placements sections, with some very interesting opportunities. You will probably be getting vacancy emails from a number of sources (this is very wise), but please don't ignore these emails. Some of the advertised jobs are specifically aimed at Kent graduates, often by employers who are themselves graduates from Kent, or have recruited a Kent graduate and have been impressed by them, so often competition for vacancies in our vacancy database is often much lower!

What are Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Schemes?

• KTP www.ktponline.org.uk is a government-funded scheme that places graduates in Small and Medium Sized Organisations to work on knowledge transfer projects central to the needs of the company.
• As well as salaried employment, graduates receive support to study for a higher degree and to gain a management qualification.
• There are many KTP schemes in our vacancy database http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/jobs/index.htm look for (KTP) in the vacancy title!
• Vacancies arise throughout the year in a wide range of employers and locations and projects last between 12 to 36 months.
• KTPs can help to enhance your career prospects by providing you with an opportunity to manage a challenging project, central to an organisation's strategic development and long-term growth.
• Most (but not all) vacancies are for graduates in science, engineering, IT and business-related subjects. You need to be qualified to an upper 2nd class degree or better.
• Around 62% of KTP Associates are employed by the host company when the project ends.
