Careers Advice

Duty Careers Adviser
A careers adviser is on duty to help with queries between 10.30 am - 12.30 p.m. and 2.00 - 5.00 p.m. every weekday on the Canterbury campus. For the location see here. You don't need to book an appointment to see the duty careers adviser but may need to wait a few minutes if there are several people waiting to be seen. Just ask at reception to see them.
Medway students should see the Medway Careers page for duty times.
You can ask the duty careers adviser to check your CV, or for advice on jobs or interviews, for example. If you have a more complex query or problem - such as "I have no idea what I want to do!" the duty adviser will probably suggest that you book in for a longer careers guidance interview (see below) but will also be able to offer some ideas for self-assessment and careers research to help you get started.
If you have a query related directly to your subject of study, or to careers associated with it, you may want to call in at a time when the careers adviser for that subject is on duty - you can ask at or ring reception (01227 823299) to find this out. Normal times are shown below but please be aware that these may change due to other staff commitments, especially during vacations.

Careers guidance interviews
If your query is likely to take longer, then book in for a careers guidance interview. Here, you will have time to talk things over in more detail with the careers adviser for your subject - see our Staff pages for details. A careers interview typically lasts 30 or 40 minutes, although the length of time taken is up to you (up to a maximum of one hour). Interviews are confidential and impartial. Before coming to a careers interview, you will be asked to complete an introduction form (available from the Reception desk) to give the careers adviser some basic background about yourself - alternatively, you can just bring your CV along with you. To book a time for a careers interview, ask at the Reception Desk or phone ext. 3299 - at present, we are unable to arrange careers interviews by email.
