Example CVs, Covering Letters and Application Forms

A range of example CVs, covering letters and application forms for students and graduates, complete with interactive help.

Please remember that these are examples – they are not templates. They are designed as guidelines to the key points that should be covered in a CV for these areas of work, but there are many ways to compose and structure a CV and there is no single “right” way. Feel free to choose any of these examples and to adapt it in the way that works best for you. Also, CVs and covering letters should be composed in your own words. Don't lift phrases and paragraphs word-for-word from these examples – employers may well recognise them!

• Examples of good and bad student CVs with lots of hints and tips.
• A standard CV model Tips on content. Based on a computing student.
• Skills-based CV with tips on content. This one is by a mature Humanities student: skills CVs often work well for mature students as they demonstrate life experiences more effectively, but they can be used by students of all ages and backgrounds. Particularly useful if you are applying for careers that are not directly related to your degree subject or previous experience.

  • Example Creative CV (MS Word format) Colourful CV of a multimedia student appropriate for advertising, PR, multimedia and creative careers where design skills are important. More eye-catching than standard CVs.

  • Grey boxes make this attractive without being obtrusive. Modules are in columns to save space.
  • Employment goes first due to strong relevant work experience. Nice use of tabs to format the CV
