International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia
Nearly 300 young people from 17 local schools will take part in the University's World Languages Day on Monday 25 June 2012 on the Canterbury Campus. Over 120 attended a similar day in Medway on Wednesday 20 June. World Languages Day, now in its eighth year, is an annual event which gives year 8 students the opportunity to try out a new language or use the ones they are already studying in lively and interactive workshops.
Organised by the Partnership Development Office, World Languages Day this year includes an action packed theatre presentation in French followed by over 40 workshops in 15 different languages ranging from Arabic, Mandarin and Japanese to Danish, Greek and Italian. Workshops are presented by University staff from the Centre for English and World Languages and the School of European Culture and Languages, teaching staff from participating schools and student ambassadors. They include Indian Music and Dance, Ancient Greek and the hotly contested European Quiz
