Although Charles Dickens was closely associated with London and has been widely praised for his vivid evocations of city life in the mid-Victorian period, the county of Kent had an equally important place in both his personal life and his fiction.

Understanding philanthropy: three years on

Shortly after the collapse of Lehman Brothers bank signaled the onset of a global economic crisis, 100 people - including academics, dignitaries and charity leaders - gathered in Darwin College to mark the establishment of a new Centre for Philanthropy, Humanitarianism and Social Justice within the University of Kent.
