A celebratory lecture commemorating the anniversary of T.S. Eliots birth will be held on Wednesday 26 September. The lecture, by Professor Ken Pickering, takes place from 6.30-8pm in the Grimond Lecture Theatre 1 on the Canterbury campus.
Between 1928 and 1948, Canterbury Cathedral commissioned many new plays but none achieved the international recognition and popularity of Eliots Murder in the Cathedral. Professor Pickering will explore the genesis, nature, stage history, performance issues and problems of this acknowledged masterpiece of 20th century theatre.
The lecture will be followed by drinks and light refreshments in Eliot College Cloisters. Tickets, priced £5 for students and £7 non-students, are available from Meredith Johnson, Room W4.8, Eliot College m.l.johnson@kent.ac.uk or 01227 823141.
