International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia
Dickens scholar Professor Michael Slater will give an open lecture at the University on Wednesday 17 October at 6pm.
The lecture, titled 'Dickens and Shakespeare' will take place in Woolf College Lecture Theatre on the University's Canterbury campus. Admission is free and open to all.
Michael Slater is Emeritus Professor of Victorian Literature at Birkbeck, University of London. He is a past President of the International Dickens Fellowship and the Dickens Society of America, and former editor of The Dickensian.
He has published a number of books on Dickens and his circle including Dickens on America and the Americans (1979), Dickens and Women (1983) and an acclaimed biography Charles Dickens: A Life Defined by Writing (2009). From 1994-2000, he edited the four-volume Dent Uniform Edition of Dickens Journalism. His most recent book The Great Charles Dickens Scandal was published in August 2012.
Professor Slater has lectured widely on Dickens and other Victorian authors in North America, Europe and the Far East.
