Dr Tom Casier

Tom Casier obtained his PhD in Political Science from the University of Leuven with a dissertation on the transformation process in Central and Eastern Europe. From 1990 to 1999 he worked at the University of Leuven, first as a Researcher of the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research, later as post-doctoral researcher and finally as coordinator European Studies. In the following years he worked as Lecturer at EIPA (European Institute of Public Administration) in Maastricht and at EHSAL in Brussels. In 2003 he became Assistant Professor and founding Director of the MA in European Studies at the University of Maastricht. Since September 2007 he is Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Kent (Brussels School of International Studies). Currently he is also Visiting Professor at the University of Leuven, lecturing on political development in Central and Eastern Europe.
Tom Casier has been teaching courses in the fields of International Relations, EU External Relations, European Integration, Foreign Policy Analysis, Russian Foreign Policy, Politics in Eastern Europe and Russia. He is a regular visiting lecturer at different European universities.
His research interests include EU-Russia relations, Russian and EU foreign policy and European Neighbourhood Policy / Eastern Partnership. Tom Casier has published on Russian foreign policy, EU-Russia energy relations and on European Neighbourhood Policy. Recent articles appeared in International Politics, Journal of European Integration, Democratization and Geopolitics.
