Ingenuity Fund

The Ingenuity Fund has been set up to support the project needs of postgraduate research (MA, MSc, MPhil and PhD) students who can demonstrate an entrepreneurial and public spirited approach to their studies.
Projects should be relevant to rural development and small scale industry and can include such diverse areas as wood or metal working, textiles, architectural models and skilled crafts such as book binding; these are only ideas - the criteria are very flexible.
The fund will award up to £10,000 over the course of the academic year; it is envisaged that between 1 and 3 students will be supported annually.
How to apply
To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must have made a formal application for postgraduate research study, or be a current student, at the University of Kent. Applications to the University can be made online

Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Doctoral Studentships

This is a combined funding and teaching studentship, so you will need to undertake teaching while you are researching for your PhD. Our current studentship recipients really enjoy this important part of the GTA Scheme. The amount of the GTA will cover tuition fees at the home/EU rate plus a combined salary and maintenance grant equivalent to the full UK Research Council rate (£13,590 in 2011/12). (Please note that this means that International students must pay the difference between the Overseas rate and the Home/EU rate of tuition fees).
The Assistantship is offered on a full-time basis. Students engaged as Graduate Teaching Assistants hold a unique position in the University; they are both registered students in receipt of a studentship award and employees of the University. As such they hold two mutually dependent agreements with the University of Kent and are required to abide by the terms and conditions of both agreements, as well as having the opportunity to enjoy the privileges afforded them in each scheme. Terms and conditions of the GTA

To apply for the GTA you must have a good first degree and Master’s level degree. Please notify the admissions officer on applying that you are interested. All GTA applicants will be expected to attend an interview.
The School has two GTAs to award each year and these are awarded to applicants enrolling in September full time.
