Research

Drama and Theatre Studies at Kent benefit from our vivid research environment and strong research profile.  We are ranked as one of the two best departments in the country in terms of 'research power', for the quality of the research of our staff working at a world leading level: 35% of our research has been recognised as world class (4*) in relation to its originality, significance and rigour, and a further 35% (3*) as internationally excellent.

We have a very strong reputation for research in contemporary performance and theatre aesthetics and practices, in the area of European theatre and British theatre history, Greek theatre, comedy and popular performance, and applied theatre.  The department hosts two research centres: the European Theatre Research Network (ETRN) and Centre for Cognition, Kinesthetics and Performance.  Meanwhile, our flagship area of Practice as Research continues to grow.

Our research reflects the wide-ranging interests of our international team of both leading and emerging research-active staff who come from the UK, France, Australia, South Africa, Greece, Germany, Serbia, Malta, Italy and other countries.
