Event and Experience Design students are based at our new Medway School of Arts development within the Historic Dockyard at Chatham.
A £5 million development is underway at the historic riverfront site to create brand new bespoke studio blocks, seminar rooms and social facilities. New workshops providing facilities for wood metal, casting, plaster work, textiles and printing are also in development as well as outdoor space for large scale sculpture and processional construction.
Complementing this, new audiovisual facilities are also under construction with access to large-scale digital printing, photography, video and media production studios.
The atmospheric historic dockyard site itself offers a wealth of opportunities for inventive projects and it hosts events, one off performances. National Treasures Inspiring Culture is a world-class museum and gallery that hosts contemporary exhibitions. The wider site is regularly used as a film location. Elementary Productions used our Galvanising Shop studio as a location for Sherlock Holmes 2. Students were able to see the transformation of a very familiar space into a 1890s Berlin telegraph office, meet the location manager and have a tour of the other sets in the dockyard.
The Historic Dockyard has been nominated for World Heritage Site status; the result will be announced in 2013
