Alumni Careers Network

One of the ways that Kent alumni make a huge impact on todays' students is by providing careers advice to those taking their first steps in their chosen career. The Alumni Careers Network is a way of helping current students (and recent graduates) to gain an insight into careers through contact with alumni.

There is a wealth of information on careers and employers available both in print and on the web, but much of it still leaves the question, " what is this job really like?". The best way to find the answer to this question is to talk to somebody actually doing the sort of work that you are interested in, or to find out what people who have studied your course have gone on to do.
Usage is restricted to current students and recent graduates of the University of Kent.

How can alumni help?

We offer alumni the opportunity to participate in three different ways:

  • Informal interviews where student and graduate meet informally to talk about the graduate's work, how they got into their field and how their career has developed since then - and where the graduate can pass on advice to the student hoping to follow in their footsteps.

  • Advice by letter/phone/email

  • Work-shadowing. This involves spending a day (sometimes longer) following and observing the graduate as they go about their day-to-day work. Only a minority of graduates in the Network are able to offer this, but it is the ideal way for students to gain an understanding of your work.

If you would like to join the Alumni Careers Network, register for our online community and our Careers and Employability Service will contact you.
