Johnny Depp (Edward Scissorhands) stars as a 200-year-old vampire in Tim Burton’s (Alice in Wonderland, Sweeney Todd) film version of the cult gothic TV soap. Having been released from his imprisonment at the hands of evil, sexy witch Angeline (Eva Green), vamp Barnabas Collins finds himself in the 1970s.
Returning to his ancestral home, he finds it inhabited by a family including matriarch Elizabeth (Michelle Pfeiffer), a rebellious teenager (Chloe Moretz), and a ne’er do well brother (Jonny Lee Miller) as well as a live-in psychiatrist (Helena Bonham-Carter). There are shades of Edward Scissorhands in Depp and Burton’s gothic fish-out-of-water tale, but Dark Shadows has a wacky hilarity and a dark, sexy verve all its own. Tremendous fun.
