SUMMARY:Project Nim 12A
LOCATION:Cinema, The Gulbenkian, The University of Kent, Canterbury, Kent, CT2 7NB
DESCRIPTION: From Oscar winning director James Marsh (Man on Wire) comes another fascinating, unsettling documentary.\n\nIn November 1973, a baby chimpanzee, Nim, was born in a cage at a private research centre in Oklahoma. A few days later, he was taken from his mother and placed into the waiting arms of his new human ‘mother’, a psychology graduate student with three children of her own. So began an experiment run with a relaxed, Seventies attitude - raising a chimpanzee as a human child amid a rich, hippy household to see if he could learn sign language and thereby communicate with humans to tell us what he thought and felt.\n\nhttp://www.kent.ac.uk/gulbenkian/Cinema/films/2011/october/2011-10-project-nim.html
