Lecture: Conservation in a Global Garden
DICE Annual Lecture

The 2011/12 Annual DICE Lecture will take place on Friday 23rd March. This year's speaker will be Professor Jon Hutton, Director of United Nations Environment Programme – World Conservation Monitoring Centre.

Jon Hutton has a background in biodiversity science, rural development and international policy, as well as 25 years’ experience working as a conservationist in Africa. In 2005 he joined UNEP as Director of the World Conservation Monitoring Centre in Cambridge, UK, where he is currently responsible for the work of 80 scientific staff, and projects such as the global Biodiversity Indicators Partnership which measures progress towards the international 2010 biodiversity target.

Jon has produced over 50 peer-reviewed papers, books and conference proceedings covering issues such as conservation policy, wildlife management, protected area management, community-based natural resource management, the sustainable use of natural resources and the relationship between conservation and poverty. In recognition of his academic interests he a Senior Member of Hughes Hall College, Cambridge and Honorary Professor of Sustainable Resource Management at the University of Kent.
