Lauded with praise at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Nicolas Winding Refn’s (Pusher trilogy, Valhalla Rising) new film is one of the most eagerly awaited releases of the year.
The talented, eminently watchable Ryan Gosling (Blue Valentine, Half Nelson) stars as Driver, a Los Angeles wheelman for hire, who spends his days stunt driving for film productions, and occasionally moonlights as a getaway car driver at night. A loner with a questionable moral compass, he nevertheless falls deeply in love when he meets his neighbour Irene (Carey Mulligan – An Education, Never Let Me Go), a vulnerable young mother threatened by the return of her violent ex-con husband Standard (Oscar Isaac).
