Twenty years... two people. Directed by Oscar nominated Lone Scherfig (An Education) and adapted by David Nicholls, the highly anticipated film of Nicholls’ internationally bestselling novel has a lot of fans to please.
After one day together, their college graduation on July 15th 1988, Emma Morley (Anne Hathaway - Rachel Getting Married, Brokeback Mountain) and Dexter Mayhew (Jim Sturgess - Across The Universe, The Way Back) begin a friendship that will last a lifetime, though they’re very different. Principled Emma’s working class background is part of her, and she’s quietly, determinedly ambitious;; whilst wealthy Dex expects the world to fall at his feet. For the next two decades, as in the novel, the film visits their lives and charts their progress. Together and apart, we follow Em and Dex as they go through love affairs and career highs and lows, finding solace or opposition in each other; and watch as they slowly realise that what they’re searching for has been there all along.
